GEDANKEN ZUR REVOLUTION (Thoughts on Revolution) is in essence a project on communication. Founded in August 2007 by Tibor Müller and Stefan Riebel, the project consists of two basic ele- ments. The first element comprises the numerous exhibition processes taking place in multiple locations to which various participants are invited. The second is the ever-expanding archive of artist’s works, applications and proposals for participation. The duration of each exhibition as well as the interaction between process and archive is set forth under REGULATION. There a collection of rules enables the basic realisation of the project. What results in GEDANKEN ZUR REVOLUTION is a very dynamic process whereby participants are in constant negotiation to achieve the best results in presentation, both individually and in total.

THE EXHIBITION PROCESS
To the different exhibitions, named PART 01, 02, etc., a variable number of artists are invited by the hosts to begin the process. The first invitees must agree how to use the space in the presentation of their individual artworks. In reaching an agreement in the placement of their works, these artists define the structure of the exhibition. After installing and documenting their work, each artist is then asked to invite another artist. It is entirely up to the inviter to decide who the following artist will be; where s/he comes from and in what discipline they work. The decision to invite another artist is also optional. With each new artist added to the exhibition, all participants must work to- gether to configure the space in a manner agreeable to all. At any point in time the whole structure of the exhibition can be questioned and rearranged with all concerned artists and their art pieces. It is also possible to remove an artwork from the exhibition process after it has been fully installed if a majority of participants agree it is necessary to maintain an agreeable presentation. The con- tinuously growing number of participants and the possible overcrowding of the exhibition space render the outcome of GEDANKEN ZUR REVOLUTION. The ongoing process of inviting, rearranging, restructuring, installing and altering of the exhibition will only be interrupted by the limited time of each PART. With the increasing density at the place of action and the related interlace and pyrami- ding of the artworks different processes of organisation and forms of highlighting will soon emerge to guarantee the further on presentation of every single work at all.

THE ARCHIVE
The archive is a record of every artist who participated or applied for participation in the project and his or her proposed work. Being registered in the archive with all required material is the basic condition for participation. The archive is open to and searchable by all participants and invitees. Every artwork contained within the archive can potentially enter an exhibition process at any time or place. The permanent growth of the collection and its availability to participants fosters networ- king between artists and allows the presentation of their works beyond the initial GEDANKEN ZUR REVOLUTION action.

OUR GOAL
As founders of the project our desire is to initiate the development of new ways of communicating about and organising the arts. Exploring loss of control through unpredictability we seek to expand the definitions of art production and presentation, as well as question curatorial responsibility and authorship of working processes. In addition, GEDANKEN ZUR REVOLUTION seeks to encourage the continuous develop- ment of an international network of multi-disciplinary artists engaged in open-ended exchange. All artists are welcome to apply for participation in a GEDANKEN ZUR REVOLUTION exhibition and to contribute their work to the project.

We look forward to new possibilities extending from divergent viewpoints and conceptions, leading to interesting and exciting processes.
